Cheryl J. Kaufman, Esquire

OF COUNSEL

In the course of a residential real estate transaction, Cheryl provides a concierge level of service. From drafting and reviewing purchase and sale contracts, to reviewing condominium documents for buyers, to making lender introductions for clients, and making realtor introductions, Cheryl makes sure her clients’ needs are covered. She prides herself on being responsive to her clients and working together with client’s lenders, borrowers, realtors and others towards a smooth closing.   For those clients purchasing a primary residence, Cheryl oftentimes assists them in filing for the Florida homestead exemption after the closing.

In a commercial real estate transaction, Cheryl provides assistance at all phases of the transaction beginning with drafting the contract. Once the contract is executed, she works closely with her client to discuss the due diligence process which often times includes obtaining environmental studies, reviewing leases and rent rolls, preparing and reviewing tenant estoppels, resolving title matters, satisfying lender requirements, and working with the lender and the parties towards the successful consummation of the sale, purchase or loan transaction.

Over the course of Cheryl’s career, she was previously general counsel of a mortgage bank and title company. Through her years of experience with the mortgage bank, Cheryl became well versed in lenders’ requirements and uses her knowledge to guide her clients through various hurdles and stages of the loan process.

Cheryl has been recognized by Chicago Title Insurance Company for exceptional achievement in real estate title matters.  She was previously an adjunct professor at Barry University and received an outstanding discussion leader award while lecturing for the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Cheryl has been awarded an AV Preeminent® Rating by Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ annually for many years. This rating is the highest level of peer rating and is awarded only to those attorneys with the highest ethical standards and professional excellence.

Cheryl obtained her undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Florida and obtained her J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Miami School of Law.  Cheryl has been a member in good standing of the Florida Bar since 1986. In addition to the Florida Bar, Cheryl has also been licensed as a Florida Certified Public Accountant since 1987. Although Cheryl does not practice in the field of accounting, she uses her tax knowledge to assist clients in exploring and consummating like-kind exchanges.

Cheryl grew up in Miami and together with her husband, Dana, raised their children in Miami who are fourth generation Miamians.
